Freightliner names its technician of the year

The final stage of the Freightliner Australian Pacific Technician of the Year has been completed with a New Zealand technician taking home the top prize.

Cameron Nicol from Trucks and Trailers in Auckland was honoured at the newly established Daimler Truck and Bus Training Academy in Mulgrave, located in Melbourne’s east. Runners up were Brodie Martin of Daimler Trucks Adelaide and Adrian Hays from Trucks and Trailers, the second representative of the dealership in the finals.

Nicol will receive an all-expenses trip to North America where he will get to visit the Freightliner truck manufacturing plant in Cleveland, the test-engineering centre in Portland, the engine manufacturing plant in Detroit and the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.

Stephen Downes, Freightliner Australia Pacific Director, said it was important to applaud the valued technicians who support the brand seven days a week, 365 days a year.

“Quality technicians are a crucial part of our commitment to our customers, so it is appropriate we celebrate the best of the best with awards like this,” he said.

“I want to congratulate Cameron, Adrian and Brodie for displaying such a high level of skill and commitment to Freightliner and its customers.”

All entrants in the Freightliner Australian Pacific Technician of the Year must have completed the Professional level Status of the Freightliner Certified Training Program.
