– Mark Your Calendar NOW – 5-9 September 2011
The Victorian Transport Association and the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce have presented Freight Week every two years for the past 22 years. Over this time, Freight Week has showcased and celebrated the freight logistics sector to the industry with the aim of highlighting the issues, activities, technology and developments, and in fact every facet concerning freight in Victoria.
The role of Freight Week 2011 is to deliver valuable recommendations and solutions for businesses. Organisations that understand and meet the challenges in the economy and those that are specific to the industry will be better positioned to thrive in the future.
Freight Week 2011 is being held from Monday 5th to Friday 9th September 2011 at the Melbourne Park Function Centre (Tennis Centre).
“Freight Week is a freight industry owned and sponsored event with a ticket price around a tenth of commercial conferences, yet its value in networking and professional content is immense. The themes for 2011 concern the top five issues that drive our businesses and strategies: people and industrial relations, technology as the next frontier for productivity improvement, environmental issues, safety in our workplace, and freight strategy,” states Victorian Transport Association (VTA) CEO Philip Lovel.
The week will commence with Freight People Day, which will focus on recruitment and retention of staff in the Freight and Logistics Industry, plus Industrial Relations and their impact on Freight Human Resources. The transport logistics industry is a “people” industry, therefore attracting, training and retaining strategies are key to the workforce of the future.
Tuesday 6th September is Freight Technology Day, which will address issues around technological innovation, provide in-depth case studies on improving productivity and much more. Technology promises to deliver better safety, environmental and productivity outcomes. Freight Week will provide hands on and interactive access to these technologies.
Wednesday 7th September is Freight Environment Day; this day will feature practical advice on how to save fuel, save money and save the environment. We will hear from the EcoStation foundation partners and what they have learnt through the EcoStation program over the last two years, since it was launched at Freight Week 2009.
Thursday 8th September is Freight Safety Day. Freight Safety Day will examine important safety issues and highlight who is leading the way in road safety, and outline the actions that can be implemented to improve the safety bottom line. A series of presentations, panel sessions and case studies will allow visitors to explore current safety issues and have access to diverse expert opinion regarding safer vehicles, roads, drivers, drug and alcohol management.
Friday 9th September is Freight Agenda Day. This day will focus on the Victorian and Federal Government’s transport and freight strategies, drawing together the many themes from the week.
In addition, other events will be held during the week including a Waterfront Session, an Emergency Response Program, and a seminar from the VACC. As held in 2009, Freight Week 2011 will also include a small exhibition area showcasing some industry specific suppliers and partners.
