Followmont Transport’s new strategy

Followmont Transport is one of the largest family-owned and operated trucking companies in the country. It was established in 1983 when a rail strike disrupted magazine deliveries across Queensland, inspiring Alan Salpietro and Bernie Tobin to pool resources and take on the business. Ever since, Followmont has developed a very special company culture that revolves around spotting and seizing opportunities.

Back in 1983, the primary focus on was magazine and newspaper transport only, but Followmont’s service was so efficient that it soon attracted other work as well. Again, Alan and Bernie did not let the opportunity pass and began building the company into what it is today.

Looking back, the key to Alan and Bernie’s success was an unswerving commitment to service and the foresight to build a network unseen anywhere else in Australia. Today, sons Anthony Salpietro and Mark Tobin are heavily involved in the management of the business and work hard to expand on that foundation, retaining the hands-on approach that has defined the Followmont brand since day one.

“Both Anthony and myself are very proud of Followmont Transport and do everything to take it into the future,” says Director and CEO, Mark. “Over the last two years, we have changed the way we run the business and introduced a real culture with strong values, accompanied by a business plan implemented to ensure continued growth.”
