Followmont Transport recognised for efforts during Queensland floods

Queensland’s Followmont Transport has been recognised by the Cairns Barrier Reef Lions Club for the company’s cooperation and assistance in transporting emergency and relief supplies across Queensland during the extreme weather events earlier this year.

On behalf of the Lions Club, Gary Davey presented the award to Kevin Preston, Manager of Followmont’s Cairns depot. Kevin said he was very grateful to accept the award on behalf of all Followmont depots and staff who contributed to the disaster relief efforts.

Kevin was also personally recognised by the Lions Club for his efforts in not just the logistics of getting vital supplies delivered, but in keeping the information flow open and making available what resources he could during the emergencies.

“With our relationship with Lions, we try to be first into every affected area when there is a emergency problem in Queensland,” said Kevin. “We deliver foodstuffs, blankets, clothing, whatever they need. Our Rockhampton depot even had to have the SES doing some of the final deliveries during the floods there.”

Followmont is now the largest independently owned transport company in Queensland and employs over 650 staff and runs a fleet of more than 600 vehicles throughout the state and has opened five new company-owned depots in the past two years, taking the total to 19 company owned depots.
