With the release of the latest truck sales figures for March 2024, showing the latest truck sale figures as published by the Truck Industry Council, it is clear that first quarter truck sales remain strong, although someway behind last year’s record-breaking figures.
Isuzu retain overall number one spot in the truck market here in Australia, with the total figure for the year to date at 2,893 trucks sold, down from the 3,240 they had achieved by this point in 2023. Second place in the overall truck sales figures so far this year, Hino at 1,131, is only 60 trucks down on its numbers at this point in 2023.
The contrast in the heavy duty market, is much more stark with Volvo, achieving a major blip in truck sales figures to reach 362 for the month of March, out of the total of 788 for the year so far, which is higher than the number achieved at this point in 2023 for the Swedish Brand. In contrast for Kenworth, the number sold this month was 248 out of a grand total of 701 for the year.
This rapid increase in numbers for one month suggests that this involves a order being fulfilled by Volvo for a large company, which involves handover of a large number of trucks all within the same timeframe. It also suggest that those trucks were imported directly from factories outside of Australia, rather than running down the already overcrowded line at the Volvo factory in Wacol, Queensland.
When it comes to the medium duty chart market Isuzu continue to dominate, but Hino have had a particularly strong start to the year. The perennial number two have sold more medium duty trucks in the first three months of this year, at 494, well above the 386 achieved at the end of March last year.
