First Cat truck on the road

Delivered by William Adams, Australia’s first Cat CT630 is in operation carting fizzy drinks for Hobart based company SRT Logistics. SRT logistics managing director, Jim Miller, said he was confident the new B-double would deliver everything it promised. “Knowing the driveline we’re not expecting any dramas – and due to the Cat engine, there should be no trouble and we’re not expecting any surprises.”

Formed in the late 1980s, SRT Logistics has carved a reputation as a service provider of choice in the refrigerated and food transport segment and operates about 30 prime movers around Tasmania and Victoria.

Key to SRT Logistics taking delivery of the first Cat on-highway vehicle is Cat representative William Adams. The Australia-wide Cat trucks dealership network is one of the few that can offer the road transport industry a one stop
shop, and William Adams’ first sale was no exception – delivering the truck, finance and full support in the form of a four year / 800,000km driveline warranty.

With dealerships in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie and an established mobile field service division, SRT Logistics is assured of support wherever the trucks go.

“Service and support was central to trying out the Cat brand,” Jim Miller said. “William Adams has got a comprehensive network over here, so we expect quality support.”

Transporting soft drink from Hobart to Launceston twice daily, the new Cat CT630 is powered by Cat’s renowned 550hp C15 engine. The chassis is specifically designed for Australian road conditions with stronger cross members and heavier duty frame rails and high capacity axles and suspension.

Complementing the Cat ACERT engine, the driveline features proven road transport components including a Meritor front axle, Arvin Meritor RT-46-160 rear axle and Hendrickson HAS-461 rear road friendly suspension.

Driver fatigue is reduced with an Eaton Fuller ‘easy pedal’ ceramic clutch linked to a Fuller transmission and complemented by a roomier, functional ergonomic interior for comfort and usability.

Australia’s first Cat on-highway truck is sporting a classic white coat with SRT Logistics logo prominent on the doors and aerofoil. “We’re looking forward to getting some miles onto it and it should be great for the job – it’s horses for courses,” Jim Miller says.
