The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) NSW has added an additional 600km to the HML route network within the state. Restrictions that prevented operators from browsing HML routes online unless they are accredited to the Intelligent Access Program (IAP) have also been lifted.
Road transport operators association, NatRoad was pleased with the announcement. “The O’Farrell Government has hit the ground running on road transport. Coupled with last week’s announcement by the Minister for Minister for Roads and Ports, The Hon Duncan Gay MLC, of an immediate 2.7 metre width concession for the transportation of wool bales in NSW, operators should be warming to the new stewardship of the NSW RTA and optimistic about the prospect of further positive announcements during 2011,” said NatRoad president Rob McIntosh.
“We would like to see the Minister go one step further and remove IAP as a mandatory condition for HML access in NSW. However, previously operators could not even browse the HML routes without first becoming IAP accredited. In a positive incremental step, new routes have been added and operators can now browse the available routes before making a decision about whether or not it is worth the effort and expense of operating under IAP,” he said.
HML route maps can be viewed on the NSW RTA website.
