Dual fuel trial reaches 80% substitution

In Thailand, a five truck trial, using Hino trucks has achieved an average diesel substitution rate of 80% with compressed natural gas (CNG), with a claimed cost saving of 50%.

The trial is being run by New Zealand company Diesel Gas International who says this substitution rate is especially remarkable because the Hino engine being used has a mechanical diesel injection system. The system changes over to using CNG when the engine achieves normal operating temperature and will turn back to diesel if the CNG runs out.
