International freight and logistics giant, DB Schenker, has extended the agreement to provide the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), headquartered in Bonn, Germany, with logistics, freight forwarding and customs clearance services for a four-year period.
The company will support the Committee at the Paralympic games in Sochi 2014 (February 7 to 23) and Rio de Janeiro 2016 (August 5 to 21), but also provide help with other key IPC events. Both the IPC and DB Schenker have been working together since the Athens Paralympic Games in 2004.
“We are pleased to have DB Schenker further develop the logistics service offering to the IPC and our NPC’s (National Paralympic Committees). Consistent quality logistics services continue to be a major planning and operational requirement across our events,” said Xavier Gonzalez, Chief Executive Officer of the IPC.
Heiner Murmann, member of the Board of Management, responsible for air and ocean freight at Schenker AG, commented, “We are pleased to develop further the relationship with the IPC as their official logistics supplier. While thousands of athletes are already training hard for the Paralympic Games in Sochi 2014, our logistics preparations are also in full swing, making sure that the IPC will reach their goals.”
The IPC is the global governing body of the Paralympic Movement. The IPC co-ordinated the organisation of the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games, and serves as the International federation for nine sports, for which it supervises and manages the World Championships and other competitions.
