DB Schenker Logistics marks 50th year of business in Australia

Logistics and transport company, DB Schenker, has celebrated 50 years of operating in Australia this week. Within half a century, it grew from a one-man-operation into a sizeable logistics company.

“Schenker Australia now employs up to 1200 people at 16 locations and is a major link in DB Schenker’s global chain,” said Dr Thomas C. Lieb, Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of Schenker AG, who marked the anniversary with a trip to Australia that included a visit to the Gorgon LNG project at Barrow Island in WA, and the opening of a new distribution centre at Erskine Park in NSW.

“In Australia, we are at the edge of a local boom in resources that has driven exponential growth in our Perth business,” Dr Lieb said. “Our success shows that high performance and dedication to customer needs makes it possible to grow, even in a global environment that is often difficult.”

Schenker Australia has multi- and single use warehouse facilities throughout Australia and its main customers include the international automotive industry and its suppliers, aviation, entertainment electronics, retail and consumer goods as well as pharmaceutical and chemical industries.
Schenker Australia’s services include freight forwarding, contract logistics services, supply chain management and national distribution.
