Daimler AG has selected Siemens’ CAD software as standard for all vehicle development departments. Starting in mid-2012, a single product development platform will bundle the international workflow.
By deciding on the NX CAD software, Daimler has completed the implementation of a company-wide product data management system that has been introduced in the 1990s.
‘Teamcenter’ will establish a digital collaboration uniting design and production processes. The consolidation of digital product information in one global data pool is supposed to facilitate vehicle development. In addition, the introduction of parallel processing in development, design, production planning and production is meant to optimise the corporation’s entire value chain.
Siemens’ CAD software connects 20 international development centres and Daimler’s most important suppliers. “The combination of NX with our product data management system will integrate the entire product creation process from initial design to managing production machines,” says Prof. Bharat Balasubramanian, who is responsible for R&D product innovation and process technology.
Siemens’ open software solution bundles the information associated with mechanical, electrical and digital processing. “Our software will enhance development processes and production planning and therefore increases productivity,” states Chuck Grindstaff, president and chief technology officer of Siemens PLM Software.
With 6.7 million licences and 69,500 customers around the world, Siemens is one of the leading suppliers of PLM software. Product lifecycle management (PLM) is the process of managing the entire lifecycle of a product from its conception, through design and manufacture, to service and disposal. PLM integrates people, data, processes and business systems and provides a product information backbone for companies and their extended enterprise.
