A pair of new Volvo FH13 540hp 6×4 prime movers have been added to the CRL Express fleet.
Both have been purchased with sleeper cabs to complement the recent B-double super drop trailers it has acquired.
The trucks will be utilised for both changeovers and local applications travelling an estimated 450 kilometres nightly between CRL Express’ new Dandenong South depot and Aeroplane Hill in New South Wales.
Michael Waddington at CMV Truck & Bus Derrimut co-ordinated the sale.
These are the first Volvos in the fleet according to Roy Kazamias, CRL Express Director.
“We elected to go with this vehicle as it can pivot between linehaul and local application quite easily,” he told Prime Mover.
“The vehicles are European which means it excels in safety and driveability. The Volvo FH 540 proves to be a very good option as far as value for money goes,” said Kazamias.
The combination, in addition to using an anti-lock braking system, features multiple enhanced safety functions including adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning and emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane change support and driver alert sensing system.
For greater fatigue management CRL Express as equipped the cab interiors with Seeing Machines from Guardian.
“The kit and program was installed to not only alert the drivers immediately but to also send an alert back to base,” said Kazamias.
Drivers will use electronic work diaries.
The new Volvos signal a milestone for the business as it builds its own fleet.
Previously it had relied upon sub-contractors and second hand trucks.
“The business has grown exponentially hence why the investment, we have close to 80 personnel now,” said Kazamias.
“We’ve very excited to exploit more Volvos in our fleet and in particular the Volvo 600hp spec which has added power for roadtrain application,” he said.
