Changes to NSW Permit Notices

The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) is advising heavy vehicle operators that a number of new Heavy Vehicle Permit Notices will come into effect from 2 September to 1 January 2011 in NSW.

It is important that heavy vehicle operators are aware of the changes that will affect them. To ease the transition, drivers will be given a one month grace period to update their permit notices.

The first heavy vehicle notices to expire in early September are the General B-double Notice 2005 and the Class 3 Truck and Dog Notice 2005, and the RTA advises the 19m B-double notice has also been updated.

A further ten notices will expire on 30 September 2010, and another three on 31 December 2010. Heavy Vehicle Notices are legal instruments issued by the RTA under the Road Transport (Mass, Loading and Access) Act 2005.

It is a condition of all notices that when a vehicle is operating under a notice, a copy of the applicable permit must be carried in the vehicle and produced when requested by an authorised officer such as an RTA Inspector or Police Officer.

The updated Heavy Vehicle notices can be downloaded from the RTA website at www.rta.nsw.gov.au/heavyvehicles or for more information, operators can call 13 22 13.
