A working group involving NatRoad, the TWU and local council representatives has been formed to work together on developing a proposal to build a truck parking, changeover and rest stop at Narrabri. The town is located in an area where many truck drivers need to take rest breaks or change over trailers since the introduction of the new fatigue laws.
The proposals have not been finalised but are expected to include a trailer change over facility alongside parking for B-doubles and road trains as well as a washout area, cafeteria, cooking facilities, toilet and shower facilities. Trucking operators who are in need of improved facilities in this area are being encouraged to get in touch with the relevant organisations to help them gauge the level of demand for such a rest stop if it were to be provided.
