Caterpillar and Navistar joint venture, NC2 Global LLC, will launch its first ever on-road trucks in Australia during October 2010.
The first trucks to be released will be the Cat CT 610 and the CT 630 which have been designed to specifically suit the Australian market. Both models will be available in day-cab and extended day-cab options.
These trucks are being assembled at NC2’s manufacturing facility in Tullarmarine, Victoria which was formerly used for the production of Cat earthmoving equipment. A multimillion dollar conversion overseen by NC2 manufacturing operations manager, Ted Pulver has brought about rapid changes to allow for the manufacture of Cat on-road trucks.
“We have come a long way since NC2 was initially formed in September 2009,” said managing director of sales and marketing for NC2 in Australia, Jeff Tyzack. “Now we are building Cat trucks in Australia, for Australian conditions.”
NC2 will also have a network of Cat dealers that will sell and service the vehicles. The Cat dealers will initially cover 54 locations, each of which was strategically selected based on market coverage, service orientation, experience with servicing Cat engines and commitment to the on-road truck market.
Jeff said, “We have established an NC2 Australian team that is addressing every aspect of customer needs. Along with engineering and production, the NC2 team includes staff focused on sales, marketing, parts, service, finance and dealer operations. The team is working together to build a business model that is geared to the Australian market, and especially to the needs of the Australian customer.”
