BP confirms WA diesel supply

BP has confirmed that it will continue to supply diesel to the Western Australian market following a short term, albeit acute supply shortage.

The fuel giant also noted that completely restocking all service stations will take some days to complete. The shortage has been limited to diesel in the Perth metropolitan area.

According to BP, the reason for the shortage is that a shipload of imported diesel, while passing national fuel quality standards, had slight discoloration. This led to additional technical enquiry to confirm that the fuel was nevertheless fit for use in diesel engines.

“BP’s fuel quality experts have now confirmed that this is indeed the case,” said a company spokesperson. “There is considerable stock of diesel at BP’s Kwinana refinery. This is being prepared for pumping to fuel terminals and for onward distribution to service stations.”
