AutoSense, a leading New Zealand provider of fleet and driver safety solutions, is strengthening its presence in Australia with the launch of LifeSaver Mobile, a first-of-its-kind app designed to stop distracted driving before it starts.

Already working with Australian fleets, AutoSense is introducing LifeSaver Mobile at a critical moment for road safety, as distracted driving incidents rise and enforcement around mobile phone use behind the wheel intensifies.

According to the Australian Automobile Association, national road tolls have increased year-on-year for the past five years, highlighting an urgent need for proactive, preventative safety solutions. Distracted driving remains a significant contributor to crashes on Australian roads, particularly for commercial fleet drivers.

A growing road safety challenge

Guardian Insights data captured 387,753 distracted driving incidents in Australia in the year from 2024 – 2025. With over 400,000 Australian businesses operating a fleet of vehicles, it’s clear that accessible fleet safety solutions are critical for employers.

Mobile phone use is a common cause of driver distraction – in 2025, 45 per cent of Australians surveyed by Budget Direct admitted to using their phones while driving in the previous two weeks.

LifeSaver Mobile takes willpower out of the equation, blocking mobile phone use while the vehicle is moving.

“You can tell drivers not to touch their phones, but habits are powerful,” says AutoSense CEO. Charles Dawson. “Technology is the only way to take temptation out of the equation and make safety automatic.”

A proven fleet safety partner

AutoSense Australia provides holistic solutions for fleet and driver safety, combining the latest technology with bespoke consultancy on fatigue management and driver distraction.

AutoSense has long been a recognised leader in New Zealand’s fleet safety sector, delivering training and advisory consulting, advanced driver monitoring solutions and fatigue and sleep management services across the country. Through these offerings, AutoSense works closely with commercial fleets to reduce risk on the road.

With over 6,000 fleet vehicles protected by AutoSense solutions in New Zealand, AutoSense is continuing its mission to help fleets build stronger safety cultures and keep drivers safe at work by expanding its presence in Australia.

How LifeSaver Mobile works

Distributed exclusively in Australia by AutoSense, LifeSaver Mobile helps employers eliminate distracted driving without slowing teams down.

Available on Android and iOS, the solution pairs a secure web portal for policy enforcement with intelligent app control on the road.

Drivers retain access to essential navigation and dispatch tools through whitelisting, while distracting apps are locked automatically when driving begins.

When the user isn’t behind the wheel, Passenger Unlock allows temporary access, with every unlock recorded for complete accountability.

Because it’s entirely software-based, LifeSaver Mobile scales easily — from small fleets through to large national operations.

Technology can stop distraction before it starts

AutoSense and LifeSaver Mobile aim to stop distraction before it starts.

“Commercial fleets are under constant pressure — managing fatigue, tight schedules, and compliance obligations,” Dawson says. “This is one area where technology genuinely makes life easier and roads safer for everyone.”

Across Australia, state governments are cracking down on mobile phone use while driving with mobile phone detection cameras and bigger penalties, the highest of which is in Queensland with a fine of $1,161 and four demerit points.

But the real cost, Dawson says, is far higher.  “A moment’s distraction can change lives forever. None of us are immune to that risk.”

AutoSense is a leading provider of fleet and driver safety solutions across Australia and New Zealand. Supporting both heavy and light vehicle fleets, AutoSense enhances road safety through a comprehensive range of offerings – including advanced in-vehicle driver monitoring systems, fleet driver training, personalised coaching, and fatigue and sleep consultancy.

Combining innovative safety products with expert-led services, AutoSense helps businesses reduce risk, improve performance, and keep drivers safer on the road.
