Australian Scania truck technicians in World Finals

After an exhausting elimination process, five young Australian Scania technicians are one of just ten teams remaining in Scania Top Team Challenge 2013. They will compete in the semi final in Södertälje, Sweden, on 21 November to compete for a place in the grand final.

Only three teams will progress from this semi-final to the world final on Friday, 22 November.

After winning the national challenge to find the most skilful and knowledgeable workshop team among the Scania Australia factory-owned branch network, the “Southern Stars” from Prestons in NSW earned their place in the finals after taking out the Asia/Oceania regional event in Thailand.

Despite having to fight off recurring bouts of intestinal unpleasantness in Thailand, the Southern Stars cracked a tricky bus-related electrical challenge to secure their victory there and a trip to Sweden.

There’s some pressure on the team led by Phil Sage as another team from the Prestons dealership won the previous World Final.

The Southern Stars comprise Phil Sage, Graham Andrews, Michael Farrell, Logan Hoser and Ben Jeffrey. Training and practice for the World Finals has been under the watchful eyes of Scania trainers Brett Tingwell and Craig Pygall.

The average age of the members of the Southern Stars team is 29. Team members think they need to finetune their processes to stand a chance in this fierce international competition.
