The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) has called for greater expenditure oversight and transparency in road infrastructure provision in its latest submission to the Productivity Commission.
The submission recommends implementing basic audit processes and increased demands to encourage efficiency between road agencies.
ATA Communications Manager Bill McKinley said the project governance of infrastructure projects in Australia needed to be improved. “With 48 per cent of projects failing to meet baseline timeframes, costs and quality objectives, there are obviously significant issues that need to be addressed,” he said.
“Holding governments to account for how they use the infrastructure funding they receive is an important first step for the industry to be sure it is getting value for the tax money it pays.”
