93 countries competing in Volvo technician competition

Vista is an annual competition for truck and bus technicians organised by Volvo since 1957. The global spread of the Volvo Group as seen this grow to an international competition attracting 17,000 entries from 93 countries in 2013. A number of rounds whittled that number down to the 32 teams who took part in the global grand final.

The winners, announced yesterday, were Team Harju from Finland who won out in an event designed to develop and improve employee's knowledge and skills as well as improving aftermarket customer services for the Volvo Group. They beat teams from Switzerland and the United Kingdom into second and third place, with a team from Korea winning best team spirit, Brazil winning best team leader and another Finnish team being named as the best newcomer.

“We are extremely happy and proud to be the world champions,” said Immo Harju, the winners' team leader. “The competition has been very demanding and it was a tough day. Some of the tasks were quite stressful, but we all know each other well and work well together as a team.”

Volvo presented the winners with their prize at a gala dinner and the company estimate the Vista competition has generated around 475,690 hours of extra training for Volvo Trucks and Volvo Buses aftermarket personnel.

“Vista forms a vital part of Volvo Trucks competence development work,” said Hayder Wokil, all Volvo's Quality Director. “The results will now be used in the Volvo Trucks and Volvo Buses global training and competence development programme in order to maximise the total quality of our aftermarket customer services.”
