2012 TMC program announced

The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) has announced the program for the 2012 Technical and Maintenance Conference (TMC) in October.

Jointly presented by the ATA and the Australian Road Transport Suppliers’ Association (ARTSA), the Conference will run from 15 to 17 October and will be held at the Automotive Centre for Excellence at the Kangan Institute in Melbourne.

According to ATA CEO, Stuart St Clair, the 2012 TMC will present a mix of technical forums and hands-on product training workshops aimed at trucking businesses, truck maintenance businesses and industry suppliers.

“The Conference will include 10 technical forums aimed at workshop supervisors, managers and executives, which will cover the key issues affecting the technical side of our industry,” he said.

The technical forums will include sessions on:

  • truck electrical systems;
  • best practice work health and safety procedures;
  • examples and case studies on how to save on fuel and maintenance costs through better aerodynamics, tyre selection and maintenance; and
  • the results of the ARTSA/Queensland Government brake testing program.

“The conference will also include 12 hands-on product training workshops, delivered by supplier experts,” St Clair added. “Participants will receive a certificate of attendance for each workshop they attend, signed by the manufacturer and TMC, to demonstrate what they have brought back from the conference.”

The product training program will include workshops on:

  • Stemco wheel end maintenance, inspection and acceptable end play setup
  • SAF Intradisc Integral and SAF Intradrum suspensions and axles;
  • BPW Transpec airbag suspensions and BPW Transpec axle bearing adjustment;
  • Knorr-Bremse Australia brake diagnosis and repair; and
